3D APPAREL COURSEWORK / PROJECT 02
Denim Deconstructed
GARMENT DECONSTRUCTION / FLATBED SCANNING / CLO3D / SURFACE DEVELOPMENT
A physical pair of bootcut jeans taken apart, scanned piece by piece and rebuilt in CLO3D as a digital twin — pattern, construction, material and wash.
THE PROJECT
An existing pair of bootcut jeans was deconstructed. Each pattern piece was measured, documented and scanned, and the silhouette was rebuilt in CLO3D from those pieces.
The goal was a digital twin, not a lookalike: the CLO denim had to drape like the physical pair, and the surface had to carry the same wash, fading, whiskering and contrast topstitching.
01 / ORIGINAL GARMENT
02 / DECONSTRUCT
Unpicked into its component pieces.
The jeans were taken apart along their seams — legs, yoke, waistband, pockets and facings — so that every piece could be laid flat, measured and documented on its own.
03 / SCAN
Every piece, flat and at full scale.
Each panel went through a flatbed scanner. The scans keep the exact outline of the cut piece and the wear it carries: fading at the thigh, whiskers at the hip, the shadow of a removed pocket.
04 / RECONSTRUCT
05 / BUILD
Five-pocket construction, piece by piece.
Waistband and belt loops, J-stitch fly with a shank button, coin pocket, curved front pockets, yoke and patch back pockets — each sewn and positioned in CLO the way it sits on the original.
