CLO PROJECT_04

TTM 519 / FINAL PROJECT

From Sketch to Simulation

CLO3D / 3D PEN / DRAW ON AVATAR / PATTERN REFINEMENT / MATERIAL OPACITY

An evening gown drawn directly on the avatar with CLO's 3D Pen, flattened into 2D pattern pieces and refined into a sheer lace-and-organza simulation.

3D line → 2D pattern → digital garment.

THE PROJECT

The aim was a dress combining delicate, semi-sheer fabric with a soft, draped silhouette. Rather than drafting flat first, the style lines were drawn straight onto the avatar with the 3D Pen tool, which set cutout placement, proportion and scale on the body before any 2D work.

The design changed during the process in response to how the garment behaved in CLO — the sketch was a starting point, not a specification.

STAGE_05 / SIMULATE

Lace and organza tuned for opacity, then simulated and rendered.

04 / REFINE

Cleaner curves, more skirt.

Curve points were adjusted and lines smoothed into clean pattern pieces. The skirt base was extended with Change Length, then slashed and spread with the Fullness tool for a gathered, flowing volume. Offset Pattern Outline adjusted fit during simulation.

05 / MATERIAL

Lace and organza, tuned for opacity.

Different fabric combinations, opacity settings and layering were tested until the semi-sheer floral lace bodice and the organza skirt read together without losing the leg beneath.
