Emotional Mines

MX DYE / WATERCOLOR ON FABRIC / MACRAMÉ NETTING / CROSS-STITCH

An installation of suspended soft forms resembling underwater sea mines — the wreckage of grief and loss, in hand-dyed canvas and knotted netting.

THE WORK

Soft forms resembling underwater sea mines, suspended as an installation — grief and loss given a body in textile.

The fabric had to take dye and paint, hold color depth and survive structural manipulation, so material choice came before form.

03 / KNOTTING TESTS

Knotting techniques were tested to arrive at the netted bags that suspend each spiked form.

04 / CONSTRUCTION

The fabric needed to support painting, color depth and structural manipulation, so each spiked form was built and stuffed before any surface work.

05 / SURFACE / WATERCOLOR

The forms are layered with watercolor for anatomical depth, with cross-stitch embroidery as a visual metaphor for scarring.
